Hulu’s Futurama revival isn’t ending anytime soon. Last year, Hulu ordered twenty episodes of the series, which brought back its entire original voice cast. Ten of those aired this summer, as the eighth or eleventh season of the show (depending on how you count them). According to Variety, Hulu has now renewed the series for twenty more episodes, meaning there are actually three more seasons to come.
Created by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, Futurama follows the (mis)adventures of Fry (Billy West), a pizza delivery guy who gets cryogenically frozen and wakes up 1000 years in the future, where he makes pals with an alcoholic robot named Bender (John DiMaggio) and the delightful, one-eyed Leela (Katey Sagal). Along with the main trio, the returning voice cast includes Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman.
The synopsis for the first returing season promises “something for everyone,” saying, “New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries—including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler’s litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles. Meanwhile, there’s a whole new pandemic in town as the crew explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV.”
Future problems: They’re just like ours! Alas.
No release date has been announced for the next new season.
